Hubie Sounds is now on Mixcloud

14 May, 2010

That’s right, I’ve finally my act together and started uploading my shows to Mixcloud.

Why Mixcloud, I hear a small smelly person sitting in a darkened room ask? Well, firstly I am aware that a lot of peeps like to stream music, radio, podcasts, etc on the web without downloading to their computers, so Mixcloud ticks that box perfectly (check out the Mixcloud website for more info). Secondly, it is another handy way to promote Hubie Sounds and get it out to more people who might not venture onto NSB Radio, or facebook or this very website. And thirdly, Mixcloud is PRS registered, which means that every time someone listens to Hubie Sounds on Mixcloud, the artists, whose tracks feature on the show, receive royalty payments for their work, which has to be a good thing!

So anyway, without further ado, here is the first installment – I am uploading the shows in order of broadcast date, split into two parts per show (there is currently a 100MB limit on individual uploads to Mixcloud, so I”ve had to split each show in two in order to fit them in), so I am kicking off with Part 1 of my first show on NSB Radio, which is Hubie Sounds 001…

Hubie Sounds 001 – 3rd Nov 2009 – Part 1 by Hubiesounds on Mixcloud

Please bear with me as I upload each show, there are 14 of them so far and they will take a little while to upload! Keep checking mixcloud.com/hubiesounds for updates.

Cheers and thanks for listening to Hubie Sounds!

HUBIE SOUNDS with special guest sai

25 January, 2010

Hey everyone!

Hubie Sounds hits the internet airwaves once again this Tuesday night and this week we’ve got a very tasty guest mix from the Burmese son of wobble, Sai. He’s put together a mix chock full of wobbly basslines, dubby riddims and filthy beats which we guarantee you’ll love.

Here’s some info about Sai…

Starting out producing hip-hop on an MPC, Sai decided to concentrate on mixing when moving to London from Burma, adding dubstep and breakbeat to his repertoire and even spitting lyrics in Burmese for hip-hop group Vokal as part of his musical apprenticeship. Now rocketing to fame in London’s alternative electronic scene, recently coming 3rd in the Eastpak soundclash, he has also won the Mad DJ Comp in Nov 2009. Sai’s versatility and musical intelligence has paved the way for his on-going success. With the ability to hold down crowd rocking sets wherever he plays, from party vibe hip hop to the most gut wrenching dubstep and bassline you can dare to imagine with all the ear carnage in between. All mixed to perfection and done with bags of charisma makes him an instant fan favourite all over town and further afield!

Holding residency at london’s breakbeat stalwarts SUPATRONIX and Door. Promotions eclectic cross-genre night Never Grow Up. Also rolling with the likes of Rokit Science, Your Mum and Trouble Vision he has been booked alongside some of raves leading lights including; Pendulum, Chase & Status, Eddy TM, General Midi , Calvertron, Rennie Pilgrem, Slyde, Freestylers. Utah Saint, Elite Force, Rico Tubbs, A1 Bassline, Bass Weazal, South Rakkas Crew, Toddla T, Baobinga, Raffertie, Plastician, Reso, Brackles, Deekline & Wizard, SOTO, Plaza de Funk, 2 Bit Thugs and more. Founding UK underground DJs & skateboarders group UPPER PLAYGROUND, Sai’s library of basslines is given its own agenda and ready to push the boundaries of London’s eclectic heavy bass scene.

Make sure you mark the Wobble Squad launch night on 19th Feb and the Upper Playground Birthday on 3rd April in your diaries peeps, you won’t want to miss them! Both nights will be held at the Gramaphone in London.

For more info, make sure you check out Sai’s Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/saiburmesekid

We’ll also be spinning the usual selection of bouncy beats for your aural entertainment, including fresh tuna by the likes of Elite Force, Mr No Hands, Plaza de Funk and many more!

Hey everyone! If you’re looking for something to do to help thaw your frozen cockles this Saturday night, may I suggest you check this out… Glue @ The Horse And Groom in Shoreditch is going to be a cracking night out and promises plenty of wobbly basslines to keep your booties warm and a nice friendly atmosphere.

Here’s the all you need to know…

Glue’s mix of stellar guest DJs and the ever amazing residents will play the usual mix of electro, breaks, house and rave in what is sure to be the first of many amazing parties in 2010!

Headlining this new year extravaganza is Last Japan, hailing from South London he has exploded on to the dance scene in the last year with the 19 year old growing from knocking up bootlegs in his bedroom to become one of the hottest and most in demand remixers in the ever mutating electro scene. Having burst on to the blogs with killer remixes of Lykee Li, Rapture and La Roux, it wasn’t long before Last Japan’s original productions began to rock the club and airwaves alike, with none other than Radio 1’s Kissy Sell Out tipping him as one to watch!

We’ve also got Phil D, the man once known as uglymowgli who is making a name for himself both as an amazing DJ with a series of excellent gigs around London and as a top scribbler for dance music bible Mixmag. His mashed up brand of genres is sure to be just the thing the Glue crowd will love!

As always the Glue’s residents, Hell Yeah and Bump will be filling out the lineup with there unique charms and special tunes. And then finally stepping in to replace Mittens is NSB’s own Hubie!

Hubie’s ‘Yule Luv This’ Chart

4 December, 2009

Well it’s been about six months since I last did one of my ‘monthly’ charts so I spose this one is a tad overdue. Anyway, here’s my latest selection of fings that make me shake what my momma gave me (and I’m not talking about my Christmas presents either, cos I would never do that, I am a good boy).

Most of the tunes in this chart are available to buy from Beatport, etc, so please support these poor artists or else they won’t have anything to eat this Christmas and that would be a terrible tragedy wouldn’t it? Yes it would.

01. Flore feat. Shunda K – Feel Me – Peo de Pitte Remix (Botchit & Scarper) – Peo is by far and away my favourite producer at the moment and I’m fairly sure I’m not alone in this. Yet another solid tune gets the Peo magic, this one’s essential for y’all. Make sure you ask your nearest and dearest to buy you this for Christmas.

02. That Girl DJ – Go Commando (Re:Connect) – this has been knocking about in my box (ooer) for a while now and it still makes me feel funny in the pants region. Note to self: must clean pants.

03. Deekline – I Don’t Smoke – Deekline & Tim Healey Mix / Krafty Kuts Edit (Rat UK) – A genuine party starter, if this doesn’t make your booty bounce then you’d best check the floor cos your booty has probably fallen off.

04. Enur – Calabria – Hot Pink DeLorean Remix / REL1 Re-Fix (CDR) – Commercial house, er, ‘classic’ gets a turd-polishing in a breakbeat stylee courtesy of REL1 from across the pond, who vastly improves the official version. This is available to download for free if you dig about on the interweb.

05. Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough – Hubie Edit (CDR) – None of you will have heard this edit yet as I’ve only just finished it, but you can rest assured it’s pretty much exactly the same as the original track therefore it is fucking amazing, naturally. Shamone.

06. Sidney Samson – Riverside – Peo de Pitte Re-Rub (CDR) – Peo in ‘Making Cheesey Chart Shlock Into Something That’s Rather Brilliant’ shocker! I quite like the use of the Renegade Master samples too, but then I’m easily pleased. Available for free if you ask Peo nicely. You’d best flash him some leg though, cos he likes that sort of thing.

07. Debtonate – Party Packer (Funk Weapons) – If you really like to rock da funky beat, somebody in da house say hell yeah. Hell yeah. Call it what you like, nufunk, funky breaks, cosy-as-a-granny-in-her-favourite-cardy-step, whatever… this is very tasty indeedy. Perfect warm up fodder.

08. KC Flightt vs Funky Junction – Voices – Riva Starr Remix (Hooj) – Part of the recent ‘Some Of These Were Hooj’ comp, this stands out above the rest and does the original plenty of justice, quite possibly even improving it. Mr Starr is on fire at the moment. He also has very handsome eyebrows.

09. Bassbin Twins – Whistle Choon (Bassbin) – This has been around for a little while now and, even though I’m not the biggest fan of dubstep in this part of soggy London, I pretty much wee my pants with excitement every time that bass kicks in. Note to self: don’t bother cleaning pants, best burn them instead.

10. Acidkids – Mad Mahoney – Trevor Loveys Remix (Acidkids) – Another one that’s been around for a while now. Trev lays on the breakbeats and basslines in his inimitable style with great gusto. This wobbles along like Jordan’s career, but it doesn’t need to get its Gazza-world-cup-1990-novelty-tits out in an Australian jungle in order for you to take notice of it. Or something like that.

Right, now you know what you should ask Santa for Christmas. Just make sure he doesn’t obtain the music illegally otherwise Jesus will swoop down from ‘pon high and kick him in the Christmas crackers.

I guess I should also mention that if you like any of the tunes in this list, then please check out my radio show, Hubie Sounds, on NSB Radio cos I rinse this kind of thing on a regular basis. Right that’s all from me for now, I’m off to wrap some mp3s, ta raa.
