breakspoll 2010 – voting is now open!

21 January, 2010

Hey kids!

It’s that time of year again where the breakbeat community dusts off its best breakbeat tuxedo and prepares itself for a civilised evening of backslapping and japery at the annual Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards. And I’m sure you all know what that means… it’s time for you to flex your voting muscles and vote for your favourite DJs, producers and so on!

Now I’m fairly sure you’ve already been inundated with spam from numerous hopefuls attempting to secure your votes, so we here at Hubie Sounds have decided to take the softly softly approach this year. So please treat this post as a gentle reminder to support your favourite artists, because the more of you who vote, the more fair and equal the voting will be.

I’m sure you already know who you want to vote for, but if you need any help with your votes, please read on and give your support to these friends of Hubie Sounds…

  • BEST ALBUM: General Midi – Operation Overdrive
  • BEST COMPILATION / MIX: NuSkoolBreaks.co.uk Presents Uncovered mixed by Ben & Lex
  • BEST TRACK: General Midi ft. Whiskey Pete – Get It Down
  • BEST REMIX: The Amplifetes – It’s My Life (General Midi Remix)
  • BEST LABEL: Distinctive Records
  • BEST PRODUCER: General Midi
  • BEST RADIO STATION: NSB Radio
  • BEST RADIO SHOW: vote for Hubie Sounds if you like, and a big thank you if you do! But may I suggest you vote for Ben & Lex’s Beats n Bobs show, which is also on NSB Radio. It’s a great show and it stands a brilliant chance of knocking Annie Nightingale off her best radio show perch this year!

>>>> Click HERE to vote! <<<<

Make sure you get your votes in as soon as poss, cos voting closes in a couple of weeks’ time!

Thanks for taking the time to vote and extra special thanks for your support, we really appreciate it!

Hubie Sounds with Special Guest Peo de Pitte This Sat Night!

5 March, 2009

Alright peeps!

I trust you’re more or less fully recovered from the debauchery of breakspoll last week? Well, regardless of whether you are or not, it’s time for you to get your interweb dancing shoes on once again cos Hubie Sounds is back on air this Saturday night!

And this week I’m honoured to be joined by Flat Out records boss and all round tip top fella, the sweetest of swedes, Mr Peo de Pitte! Peo’s in town to promote the latest release on Flat Out, the rather cracking ‘Bringing’ by Marcus Rombo which was released just yesterday. Read on for more info…

Marcus Rombo – Bringing (Released 4th March 2009)

Flatout couldn’t resist a housier tip this time after stumbling Swede Marcus Rombo.

Marcus Rombo, one half of the Swedish production duo Yeah! Woohoo!, and responsible for several well received bootleg remixes in 2008 supported by everyone from Herve to Annie Mac delivers “Bringing”, the first track produced under his own name.

To this we have added a thumping breaks-baltimore remix from International man of Mystery, Peo ‘de Pitte’. Leo Nathorst from Boeoes Kaelstigen goes for another direction and delivers us a fantastic bigroom version.

* Mixmag Single of the Month!
* M8 – Breaks Section 7/8
* M8 – Electro Section 6/8

Support from Fake Blood, Sinden, Plump DJs, Drumattic Twins, Baobinga, General Midi, NAPT and many, many more!

hubie-sounds-logo-smallAlrighty chaps and chapettes, this week Hubie Sounds returns to the Breakspoll-nominated Brapwaves for a special Breakspoll Warm Up Show! The polls are closed, the votes have been counted and the nominations are out… now all we can do is wait in sweaty-palmed anticipation to see who carries home the shiney little awards on the 26th!

That’s right, I’m gonna spin a fine selection of good old fashioned breaks from yesteryear and today which should keep your toes tapping and your booties bouncing right up to next Thursday when all that anticipation and excitement can be released in an orgy of breakbeat-fuelled boogying and drunken depravity! Oh yes.
